Today I am celebrating success! Drumroll please! I’ve lost 23 pounds so far! I know it probably doesn’t seem like a lot, but it is to me. It’s 23 pounds I’m not having to carry around with me everyday. It’s 23 pounds I lost without counting calories and spending countless hours at the gym. It’s 23 pounds I lost while not feeling deprived, and it’s 23 pounds I’m not going to gain back when I go off my program because I don’t look at this project as a program, it’s just my new lifestyle.
It’s been an amazing journey so far. I love the fact that I don’t have to feel guilty all the time anymore. I’m doing the things that are good for my body. I’m exercising, making sure I don’t overeat, and including wholesome foods in my diet. Sugar does not enter my body quite as much anymore, so that makes me feel better physically. I also enjoy having my clothes fit looser.
The thing I am really enjoying though is my level of determination. It has increased a lot. Failing is just not an option anymore. When I have a hard week, I try to analyze what went wrong and get right back on track. I try not to beat myself up over it because it doesn’t help anyway.
Tools I have used to help me
I feel like one of the tools that has been so helpful is my focus journal. I keep pictures, and things that I’ve written to myself to keep motivated. It really helps when I spend time looking at it everyday. I especially like to look at the old pictures of myself and see how far I’ve come. Get a copy of my focus journal here.
Focus Journal Companion
I also have a focus journal companion I write in almost everyday. This is just a composition book I got at Wal-mart for 50 cents. I have a little card that I keep in it to remind me of some of the things that I want to record. Here’s my list of things I write about.
- any progress
- how I did yesterday
- little victories
- quotes that help
- struggles and what I did to deal with them
- what I’m doing to keep motivated
- what I’m doing to love myself with life
- books I’m reading
- food I tried and recipes that worked
- exercises that were successful
Keeping my food journal has really helped me keep on track. This is where I record what I eat everyday. I don’t count calories, but I do keep track of how many servings of vegetables, fruits, carbohydrates, and protein or dairy I eat. It also gives me a place to keep track of my exercise. I have made it into a planner where I actually plan my day as well. That has been a lifesaver.
I know this journey is just going to continue to get better and better. With every pound I lose it gets easier to walk and be more active. I can’t wait until my clothes no longer fit and I get to go shopping and get new ones that I pick out because I like them, not just because they fit me.
I hope your journey is going well too, but if you’re struggling remember, “No failure is final”. It’s never to late too make positive changes!
Let’s do this together! We’ve got this!
