I went to a woman’s conference at my church this morning, and one of the classes I attended was called Drops of Awesome. It was a class focused on recognizing the good things we do and to stop beating ourselves up over the fact that we’re not everything we should or want to be.
The teacher used a post by blogger Kathryn Thompson. Here’s a link to her amazing post.
Let’s face it, life is busy. We all wear a lot of hats, and probably have more responsibilities in a day than we have hours. We do our best, but sometimes feel it isn’t enough. I wonder if it’s because we don’t really stop to acknowledge all we really do.
As I listened to this talk I thought about the weight loss process. Have you ever exercised and then ate a candy bar, only to beat yourself up for eating the candy bar? Have you nourished your body well all day, but couldn’t find time to exercise? Did you pat yourself on the back for the exercise or nourishing your body, or did you focus on what you didn’t do or what you did wrong?
It’s time to really start focusing on what we do right.
I exercised. Drop of Awesome!
I ate five servings of vegetables today! Drop of Awesome!
I spent time in my focus journal! Drop of Awesome!
I only ate ONE brownie! Drop of Awesome!
I talked positive to myself! Drop of Awesome!
I believe one drop of awesome leads to another, a ripple effect so to speak. It’s so much more rewarding and fun to give ourselves drops of awesome than to always be beating ourselves up.
Before I started this journey, I rarely acknowledged the things I did, and I constantly beat myself up for eating this or that. Now that I’ve been doing this for a while I can tell you I am so much more at peace with myself. I am beginning to actually like myself. That’s a new experience for me, but I’m loving it. I’m going to chalk it up to recognizing the small drops of awesome and experiencing the ripple effect.
By small and simple things great things come to pass. All these drops of awesome add up and help us create the kind of life we want for ourselves. Don’t overlook all those drops of awesome and have a great week!
Let’s do this together! We’ve got this!
